Croatia Becoming the 28th EU Member State

Croatia applied for EU membership in 2003 and was in negotiations from 2005 until 2011. On 9 December 2011 the leaders of the EU Member States and Croatia signed the accession treaty, paving the way for the country to become a full member of the EU after the ratification of the treaty in Croatia and the EU Member States.

Throughout the way of the application process, Croatia has invested considerable effort and fulfilled all the accession criteria in order to harmonize with EU laws and standards. Tangible progress has been achieved in areas such as the rule of law, the fight against corruption, human rights and protection of minorities.

Impact on investors: Croatia becoming the 28th  EU Member State on 1 July 2013.
