Elon Musk will be hosted by Bulgarian Minister of Tourism
A site from the top 100 tourist destinations in Bulgaria gained worldwide attention when a Bulgarian photographer shared a photo of it on social media, and Elon Musk left a humorous comment. He compared the site to a location in a popular video game, "Elden Ring." This playful interaction led to an invitation from the Bulgarian Minister of Tourism for Musk to visit the location, and it seems that Musk is interested in accepting the offer. Local news reports suggest that he's planning a trip to see the stunning Belogradchik rocks for himself.
The Belogradchik rocks are natural rock formations, some parts being up to two hundred meters high, formed over hundreds of millions of years. Water erosion, wind, and temperature fluctuations have modeled various rock shapes to resemble mythical creatures, human silhouettes, animals, and birds. Over one hundred caves have been formed in the sandstone and limestone.
The Belogradchik fortress “Kaleto” is located on the Belogradchik rocks which contribute to the fascinating appearance of the fortification. The power and location of the natural stone walls facilitated the Roman architects in building the construction at the beginning of the new era - between the 1st and 3rd century AD. Initially, the fort served as a hideout and observation post and did not have such strictly defensive functions. It was a link between the eastern and western parts of the Roman Empire. Later, when the Roman Empire was divided, "Kaleto" remained within the borders of Byzantium. It stayed there for several centuries, and at the end of the 7th century it fell under control of the then newly formed Bulgarian state and is currently one of the best-preserved fortresses in Bulgaria.
Despite the curious circumstances around the increased popularity of the site in the last few days, it is definitely a place worth visiting for its historical value and breathtaking beauty. Also, the great food and wine served at various cultural events under the stars at the site, such as the “Opera on the peaks - Belogradchiski rocks” festival, can really elevate the experience and provide a more complete taste of Bulgaria. And who knows, you might as well meet Elon Musk there.
