New Regulation on Liquidity Requirements for Brokerage Firms

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Serbia (SEC) has adopted a regulation on capital requirements and liquidity management for brokerage firms.

This regulation determines the following:

  • Minimum requirements for a brokerage firm’s liquidity risk management;
  • methodology for the calculation of the liquidity ratio;
  • minimum permissible liquidity levels;
  • reporting requirements and timelines;
  • reporting requirements and timelines regarding a brokerage firm's inability to perform due to monetary obligations.

The changes entered into force on 21 May 2016 and will be effective within 60 days.

Impact on investors: The new regulation will increase solvency requirements of brokerage firms, which will reduce counterparty risk.
