The IMF decreased the expected growth for 2017 from 2.0% to 1.8%. Other institutions are more optimistic.
The decreased IMF GDP growth forecast for Slovenia for the year 2017 was quite a surprise for most Slovene macro-analysts.
The Slovene Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development (IMAD) for example, an institution of the Slovenian government, is significantly more optimistic. IMAD increased its forecast for 2017 from 2.4% to 2.9%. In its 2016 outlook, however, IMAD is in line with the IMF’s forecasted 2.3%.
Boštjan Vasle, CEO of IMAD, said that it is hard to comment on the difference between IMF’s and IMAD’s forecasts for 2017 because IMF didn’t publish a structure and economic factors behind the decrease of growth. The Bank of Slovenia and other Slovene macro-economists also subscribe to IMAD’s brighter outlook.
